TENNESSEE — The Tennessee Department of Transportation is currently removing the last of the state’s X-LITE road barriers.
We told you about the fencing issue earlier this year when a Lenore City father claimed faulty fencing caused the death of his daughter.
Steve Eimers’ daughter, 17-year-old Hannah Eimers, was killed in a car crash in McMinn County.
According to our Knoxville affiliate WATE, a Tennessee Department of Transportation spokesman said there are still 36 highway barriers in the state, 32 of which are in East Tennessee.
TDOT’s Jennifer Flynn told us that all X-LITE terminals in District 2 have been removed.
TDOT originally planned to remove the barriers at the end of June, but then extended the deadline to the end of July, according to WATE.
The Indian Department of Transportation (TDOT) estimates the cost of removing and replacing the barriers at about $3.4 million. Lindsay Transport Solutions, the manufacturer of the X-LITE barriers, released a statement Tuesday.
